This server's on a slow Internet connection. You'll probably do best by saving these files to your hard drive before attempting to play them. There are more mp3s on the morris bros., o.p.p. (other people's projects), and covers pages. On cohorts, you can find more detail about any artist mentioned on this page

Another One - MMorris (11.6 MB)
This is a smooth-jazz track featuring Petri Myllys on acoustic piano, Jeff Markham on Rhodes, Michael Sharps on drums and percussion, and Ed McGlaughlin on bass. June 2007

Espressivo - MMorris (9.6 MB)
I wrote this in the mid-'70s for a classmate's senior recital, but it was never recorded until now. This track features Charley Langer on soprano sax, Ed McLaughlin on bass, and Jeff Markham on acoustic piano. March 2007

NuJazz - KMaxwell/MMorris (7.9 MB)
I'm so into this one, at the moment, that I'm posting it before it's even finished! Another international collaboration, this time with Canadian electronica artist Kieran Maxwell. April 2006

Vitamin F - MMorris (6.9 MB)
This track is on the Exile Collection CD, a double-CD compilation featuring 25 of the Other Place forum members. (Thanks to "BreezyJamz" on the Cakewalk forums for suggesting the title!) March 2006

It Takes Time to Build - Beastie Boys - MMorris (4.4 MB)
This was a fun exercise. The Beastie Boys provide a cappella raps at their site that can be downloaded and used in remixes, etc., as I've done here. Fun! November 2005

Funk Sketch - MMorris/PMyllys (8.8 MB)
This one is an international collaboration with a Finnish pianist, Petry Myllys. I met Petry on the Cakewalk Songs forum, and we started from scratch on this to jointly develop the groove, changes, melody, form, etc. (It can take a while to write via email!)

Suburban Blasé - MMorris (5.7 MB)
This track is roughly based on a blues progression, with a jazzier middle section. Charley Langer plays alto. Hey, it has a title!

No 13 - MMorris (4.9 MB)
At some point I mentioned to Charley that I'd like to write a 5 or 6 horn chart, like Tower of Power, etc., and Charley replied that he thought that he could render the entire horn section, if I wrote it. This is the resulting track. Charley Langer is the horn section, Ed McGlaughlin is on bass, and Jeff Markham is performing the organ fills and solo.

No 12 - MMorris (6.6 MB)
This started out as a collaboration with a drummer from the SONAR forums. It never was finished, though, so I recently programmed the drums, just to wrap this track up. Every now and then I try to rock out a bit.

No 11 - MMorris (4.3 MB)
This is my second collaboration with Charley Langer on Alto sax. Yet another unnamed piece. (Once again, nice job, Charley!)

Magpie - MMorris (4.8 MB)
"Magpie" is one of my daughter's nicknames. This track is dedicated to her, even though she doesn't care for my music! On this track, I'm very fortunate and grateful to feature Ed McGlaughlin on bass guitar and Charley Langer on Alto sax. These guys are *great* to work with! This is the last track I worked on in 2004 (Happy 2005!).

Sleeping Beauty - MMorris (6.7 MB)
This piece was through-composed late one night while a (former) girlfriend was sleeping. I always thought of it as a ballad, but this project took it a different way. This is the first project to feature Lex's fretless bass (thanks again, Lex!).

These are my first projects on my new DAW. They're a bit rough, I know. I need to resolve some issues I'm having with room acoustics (and put in more time mixing) to get a more polished product. Bear with me, I'm growing.

No 8 - MMorris (4.6 MB)
This will always be the project that I was working on when I had to rebuild my DAW. Then I had to come back to finish it, and by then I was tired of it. It's slow, it's mellow. . . You'll see. At least I'm preparing to do some "real" stuff. This one has more of a form, etc.

No 1 - MMorris (3.4 MB)
This is the first project I started, although I posted the following five clips first. I'm trying out "groove clips," V-Sampler, and some other soft-synths. Amazingly, this one doesn't feature a guitar solo through-out. There's no real main voice, as yet.

No 2 - MMorris (5.1 MB)
Another exercise using groove clips. I'm also playing with some VST soft-synths.

No 4 - MMorris (3.9 MB)
A pseudo-jazz musing.

Blackbird - John Lennon / Paul McCartney (4.0 MB)
I believe this is actually Paul's composition. I'm giving it a jazzier treatment. I started playing with this after hearing Mary Ann Redmond's band (local VA/MD/DC legend) doing something like it at the now defunct Capitol Grille in Woodley Park.

No 6 - MMorris (11.5 MB)
Hey, rock was my first musical love. This is an un-named 12-bar blues that rambles on for a self-indulgent 7.5 minutes (hence the large file-size). It's "No 6" because it's the 6th project I started on my DAW-learning trek. It was the second to be completed (I use that term loosely).

Giant Steps - John Coltrane (4.0 MB)
Many years back, Pat Metheny used to open "All the Things You Are" soloing unaccompanied. One by one the band would fall in, and eventually they'd play the head; but the song's changes are so familiar that the audience already knew what they were playing. I tried a similar approach here. You know it's "Giant Steps" just from hearing those changes blow by, right? For the record, this one isn't improvised -- it's a written "study" that I've had sitting around for a few years.
